Locker

The Locker tool helps you to upload and store files in VU Collaborate

About Locker

Use the Locker tool to upload and store files in VU Collaborate. Locker enables you to upload files from your PC, or to create new HTML files.  Files in your personal locker are kept private, though you may be given the option to make files public.  Group locker areas allow you to collaborate on files with others.

This guide covers the following topics, use these links for easier navigation:

Access the Locker tool

Your personal locker area is not course-specific. You can access the locker from anywhere in VU Collaborate and store all of your files together.

Click Toolbox then Locker on the navbar in any unit space within VU Collaborate.

Group lockers

Group lockers are restricted locker areas where members of a group can share files. Any group member can modify files posted in group locker areas.

Group lockers have the same options as regular lockers with the following exceptions:

  • The option to make locker files public is not available.
  • There is an option to Email Group Members.
  • There is a Modified By column that shows the last person to work on a file.

To access Group Lockers, click on toolbox from the navigation bar, then select Locker. From the locker page, click Group Lockers.

Note: You can only access a group locker from the course/unit offering it applies to. Group locker can be set up for student groups by the teacher.

Locker File Size Limitations

There are two different limits to the amount of content allowed to be stored in personal lockers and group lockers.

Personal lockers: Personal lockers (usable by only you) have a limit of 97.66MB.

Group lockers: Group lockers (usable by you and your peers if a group locker has been created for a group you are enrolled in) have a limit of 48.83MB.

Tip: If you're in a VU Collaborate group, you can ask for a group locker to store files. Ask your instructor to create one for your group if you don't have one.
